Lifestyle Fitness to Transform Roehampton Gym, Adding New Padel Club

We are excited to announce a £500,000 investment that will transform the University of Roehampton gym and introduce a brand-new padel facility. Following our appointment as the University's new operating partner, the refurbished facilities will reopen this September and be available not only to students and staff, but also to local residents, families, sports clubs and community groups, creating a new hub for health, fitness and sport in Roehampton.

As part of the transformation, we'll introduce a brand-new bookable padel court, bringing one of the UK's fastest-growing sports to the University. The new court will complement the University's existing football, badminton and netball facilities, giving both the campus and local community even more opportunities to get active.

The investment has been designed to significantly enhance the student experience while creating a welcoming environment for everyone. Whether visiting the gym for the first time, attending a fitness class, training with friends or preparing for competition, students will benefit from modern facilities that support every stage of their health and wellbeing journey.

We have extensive experience operating fitness facilities within universities, schools and community settings across the UK. Our approach combines high-quality fitness facilities with inclusive programming, creating spaces that support healthier lifestyles while encouraging stronger connections between education providers and their local communities.

The £500,000 transformation will include:

  • Expanded strength training facilities with brand-new free weights and resistance equipment
  • Dedicated functional fitness spaces, including a new training rig
  • A new recovery zone featuring Hyperice massage guns and recovery boots
  • A fully refurbished group exercise studio with unlimited fitness classes included with membership
  • A brand-new bookable padel court alongside football, badminton and netball facilities
  • Contemporary interiors with improved lighting, flooring and redesigned training spaces

To allow the refurbishment to take place, the gym will temporarily close from Sunday 3 August before reopening for the new academic year in September.

James Lawrence, Lifestyle Fitness Managing Director, said:

"This investment is about much more than upgrading a gym. It's about creating a welcoming health and wellbeing destination that enhances the student experience while opening fantastic facilities to the wider Roehampton community.

We're passionate about helping more people become active, and we're proud to be partnering with the University to create a space where students, staff and the local community can all enjoy being active together.

By investing in these facilities, we're creating an environment that supports every stage of someone's fitness journey, whether they're taking their first steps into the gym, training for sport or simply looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. We can't wait to welcome everyone through the doors and become a positive part of both the University and the wider Roehampton community."

James Ayres, Director of Sport at the University of Roehampton, said:

"We are delighted to be partnering with Lifestyle Fitness to deliver a new fitness provision for the University. The partnership represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing an outstanding health, fitness and wellbeing experience for our students, staff and the wider community.

The new partnership will see the creation of a modern, inclusive gym environment, supported by high-quality equipment and experienced staff.

Physical activity plays a vital role in supporting health, wellbeing and student success. By working with Lifestyle Fitness, we are creating greater opportunities for people to be active, build confidence, improve their wellbeing and become part of a thriving campus community."

To celebrate the launch, we're offering an exclusive Early Bird Offer of just £14.99 per month for the first 12 months. Available to University of Roehampton students and staff, as well as members of the local community who join before the club reopens, it offers the lowest membership rate available ahead of launch.

Alongside gym memberships, the new padel court and existing football, badminton and netball facilities will also be available to hire separately, creating even more opportunities for local people to enjoy the University's enhanced sporting facilities.
