WHICH FITNESS CLASS IS BEST FOR YOU?

22nd May 2018

Fitness classes are a great workout to incorporate into your training. Whether you want to learn more about exercises or you just like to mix up your training- they're a fun and social way to workout. Your club has a great range of classes to choose from, that are included in your membership! You can book classes through the wesbite or pop into club.

Here we've given you a quick overview to our more popular classes:

Spin

What is it?

Spin is a high intensity cycling workout that takes place on a stationary bike. Your legs are constantly moving and you have consistently applied pressure, with intervals of fast pedalling and then slower pedalling. Participants can expect to leave sweaty and with healthy legs.

Benefits?

The instructor will determine the intervals but will rely on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Efforts will be hard and fast but short- this creates a time effective form of training.

Ability?

Spin classes allow riders of all abilities to push themselves as much as they like. Spin bikes have resistance dials- so a stronger cyclist can turn their dial right up to the max, whilst a beginner may want to be a bit more restrained.

Metafit

What is it?

Metafit is High Intensity Interval Training using body weight exercises to boost metabolism and keep your body burning fat for hours. The class is only 30 minutes long, but you will train hard the entire time.

Benefits?

This type of exercise routine takes advantage of EPOC- excess post exercise consumption. This means that your body goes into a calorie burning overdrive as it tries to return back to normality after an intense workout. The use of interval style training will also help to build up your fitness levels fast!

Ability?

The class is suitable for all levels of fitness, as you simply adjust the exercise to suit your own abilities.

Circuits

What is it?

Circuits is a continuous workout involving cardio and resistance exercises that give your body a full workout in the quickest time possible. It targets strength building or muscular endurance.

Benefits?

This combination of both cardio and strength will blast fat and sculpt muscles. You can expect to burn up to 10 calories a minute.

Ability?

Circuits are suitable for all levels of fitness, as participants are able to push themselves as much as they like. This class is ideal for those who don’t think they have a lot of time to exercise.

Yoga

What is it?

Yoga helps to increase flexibility, strength and concentration, through controlled exercises and breathing techniques.

Benefits?

Yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance.

There is also evidence to suggest that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, back pain, depression and stress.

Ability?

Yoga allows members of all abilities to take part.

Body Pump

What is it?

Body Pump is a non-impact resistance class, using barbells and adjustable weights to tone and condition muscles whilst raising the metabolic rate. It aims to shape, tone and strengthen your entire body.

Benefits?

You can expect to burn around 500-600 calories depending on the intensity of the classes.  The effectiveness of Body Pump comes from the Rep Effect- a formula that exhausts muscles using light weights while performing high repetitions.

Ability?

In a Body Pump classes there are options to suit every ability. If you’re new to the workout, start with lighter weights and build up on this. You’ll find that your fitness and strength improve over a number of sessions.
