Kilmarnock classy for Alzheimer's

02nd September 2015

Lifestyle Fitness are proud to be supporting Tommy in his Marathon challenge to raise money for Alzheimer's charity. The club held sponsored classes to help Tommy raise funds and awareness.

"The thought first occurred to me around 3 years ago after losing both Mum & Dad to Alzheimer's (not something I would wish on anyone) to try and improve my fitness for me to turn my negative feelings into a positive.

I joined the gym that was Fitness First at that time and after I achieved a small level of fitness I started to participate in classes. It wasn't just the fitness regimes I enjoyed but the interaction with other club members and very soon my social scene blossomed with lots of new friends I was hooked.

Then the gym was taken over by Lifestyle Fitness that was a good move and the facilities improve no end, not long after that with obviously increased fitness level and thinking of my parents the idea of a marathon popped into my head didnt have a clue how achievable that would be for me, but the seed was sown and I applied for the Fort William Marathon 26th July 2015. I then thought what have I done!! This was October 2014.

The commitment was made, I kind of felt like Rocky and started to focus on the task. At first I couldn't run 500 yds  but slowly mile by mile I built it up, telling people I knew further strengthened my resolve some thought it great others thought it would kill me all comments good or bad helped.

I approached the Lifestyle Fitness Team to see if they could help me raise funds for the Alzheimer's Charity and they have been brilliant in bringing awareness to my cause and raising monies for me. The important thing for me was that I completed the 26.2mile marathon which I only found out two weeks before that it was a Cross country run, hard but I enjoyed it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported me and special thanks to Lifestyle Fitness, Jamie, Kirsty, Claire and all the members. If I can do it anyone can fuel yours dreams.

Thank you

Tommy"
