How to stimulate muscle growth
22nd September 2017
1. Mechanical tension: Perform exercises that are challenging to your bones, connective tissue and your muscles. Repeating an exercise systematically using a load that is difficult (but not too hard) will cause the body to respond by increasing the size and strength of the tissue
2. Metabolic stress: You can build muscle with light or heavy weights. However, it's important to know that if you lift light you must train the muscle to a level of exhaustion in order to trigger the hormones that are needed to stimulate muscle growth.
3. Muscle Damage: A good workout will create a small disruption in the muscle fibers. However, do not confuse this with not being able to walk after leg day. If you don't experience DOMS it does not mean muscle damage hasn't taken place, that is a common myth.
At LSFPT we regularly deliver seminars and workshops on how to program effectively for members to get the best results!
