GOING TO THE GYM HELPED MY ANXIETY

"I joined the gym 2 years ago now. Honestly, I am the last person that would have thought to join a gym, but I’ve kept going 2 years on. I suffer from anxiety and depression and thought that exercise might help.

Before signing up for the gym, I used to sit outside in the car park and talk myself out of going in.  I thought this is stupid.  I walked in, never spoke to anyone, just the odd hello and just went on the rowing machine. Once I was introduced to the gym, that was it, I was hooked!

Slowly my confidence built and I tried other exercises and eventually joined a spinning class. I joined a morning spinning class thinking it would be quiet and small. I was wrong, but I did thoroughly enjoy it even though I was nervous about it. I now go spinning twice a week and go to the gym twice a week. I am now completing a charity challenge, doing an indoor cycle ride of 212km (coast to coast) over the August bank holiday weekend. 

I absolutely love going to the gym now and every week I look forward to it. Honestly if I can do it anyone can! I just need a challenge to work towards to make going to the gym work, so I’m planning another challenge to row the channel 34km (indoors of course).

I really wanted to get fit for 50. I still have 3 years to go before I am 50 so looks like i still have at least another 3 years membership.

To be honest I have to commend the staff at my club, they are always there when you need them, all you need to do is ask. The club is a nice, friendly place to go, ideal for your first gym experience."
